COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a three-hour credit course that deals with Shakespearean drama. The course introduces students to Shakespeare’s life, times, acting company, theatre, and dramatic techniques. It also examines the Shakespearean plays as both literary and theoretical works, and their relation to the culture of the time. Moreover, the course places emphasis on reading, analyzing, and writing about Shakespeare.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- .Explain Shakespeare’s plays and illustrate their role in literature
- .Identify Shakespeare’s style
- .Enhance their appreciation of Shakespeare
- .Demonstrate the skills of independent critical thinking
- .Show self-growth as a result of the interpretation experience
- .Produce academic papers that demonstrate the techniques of research writing and correct usage of the English language
- .Write performance reviews, reports, journals, and/or a research paper on the literary and cultural implications of drama.
Explore ideas through the use of journal-type writing

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
- Attendance is mandatory. For this subject, it is not enough to come to class. It is important that students actively participate and regularly present reasoned, intelligent comments in all of class discussions.
- Students are expected to be punctual and attend all classes.
- Students are expected to bring a handwritten excuse for absence rather than a medical report.
- Being absent for more than 20% of allocated course time means that the student will receive a DN (denied from final exam).
